Résumé

With an aging population, health professionals will face a growing cohort of older patients presenting with neurological and psychiatric disorders. The aging process is associated with an increase in chronic medical conditions, sensory impairments, cognitive and functional decline, and bereavement, all of which can impact psychological wellbeing. The COVID-19 pandemic has presented further, unique challenges for vulnerable older people, although preliminary findings have indicated that older adults have actually been more resilient than younger people in terms of developing mental health conditions during the pandemic. In the present chapter, an overview of common psychiatric disorders in late adulthood is provided, in addition to recommendations for assessment and treatment planning.
